open sesame

how much do we love café sesame?

it's demure presence, at the edge of canal st. martin, belies it's robust charm. i discovered it one sunday morning, despite having passed it numerous times - and took note, much as one suddenly discovers a new love - voila, there you are!

a weekend away in paris, tout seul, left me wandering the streets - after searching for the perfect place to take my petit-dejeuner, i was thrilled indeed to have been introduced to this gentle home. with tartines, salads, café, fromage, etc., and bundled in a total lack of self-consciousness, it was and still is the best spot for that easy stop.

just down the quai are the original antoine et lili shops (now ubiquitous throughout paris) ... a nice stop nonetheless ... just don't venture too far north, towards the gare ... it becomes far less attractive, at least until one reaches the very tame and lovely spot for the pair of MK2 cinemas flanking the canal ... but more on that later -
